A Stay at Zephyr Cove Resort in Lake Tahoe, Nevada

About Zephyr Cove Resort History

Zephyr Cove Resort has a rich history dating back to the late 19th century, originally being established as a small inn for silver prospectors. In the early 1900s, the resort underwent significant expansion and became a hub for summer and winter activities, offering cabins, boating, lakeside picnics and other activities.

Over the years, it gradually evolved into the popular recreational destination that it is today, attracting visitors seeking relaxation, adventure and to be surrounded by the natural beauty.

Zephyr Cove Cabins & OTHER LODGING

The resort offers a diverse range of lodging options to suit various preferences and needs. Visitors can choose from over two dozen cozy cabins nestled in the woods along South Lake Tahoe’s shoreline, providing a rustic and tranquil atmosphere. I stayed in #22 and it was rustic and cute! Additionally, there is a handful of comfortable hotel-style rooms at The Lodge, with modern amenities for a convenient and relaxing stay.

For those seeking a more outdoorsy experience, there is also an RV Park with traditional campsites too. But, for the ultimate bucket list experience, stay a few nights in a newly built airstream.

Zephyr Cove Restaurant

More affectionately known as The Lodge, the Zephyr Cove Restaurant offers a unique dining experience with its scenic location and classic menu. The dishes these range from hearty American classics like grilled cheese sandwiches and burgers to fresh seafood and vegetarian options.

The restaurant prides itself on using locally sourced ingredients to create flavorful and satisfying meals. We had a tasty French dip with onion rings, along with yummy fish and chips!

Zephyr Cove Sunset Bar & Grille

In addition to “The Lodge”, Zephyr Cove has a popular watering hole called the Sunset Bar & Grille, which opens from late spring until early fall. Located near the water, they offer a selection of beers, wines and refreshing cocktails such as margaritas, mojitos, and martinis, perfect for enjoying lakeside.

The attached grill has all your favorite pub fare just steps away from the beach, so you don’t have to stray too far from your sunbathing spot!

PS: it’s also a great spot to have drinks while watching one of their epic sunsets!

What better way to explore the pristine waters of Lake Tahoe than embarking on a scenic cruise aboard the iconic M.S. Dixie II? This legendary 500-passenger paddlewheel boat cruise takes guests on an afternoon scenic journey or a sunset dinner cruise. Whichever you choose, you will see the stunning beauty of the lake’s azure waters and the surrounding majestic mountains.

We took the 2 ½ hour scenic cruise that took us out to Emerald Bay and back. While onboard, we learned about the lake’s history while ogling the picturesque shoreline and breathing in the fresh mountain air. It was a relaxing afternoon!

Traveling Soon? Use my Favorite Resources for Booking Your Trip!

Book Your Flight
Skyscanner is my favorite flight search engine, because it checks dozens of airlines so you can easily find the best fare deals. You can also select ‘cheapest month’ to find the lowest fares for your destination (I use this all the time!).

Book Your Accommodations
I use both Booking.com and Expedia for hotels, because each offers a couple different hotel choices and I like to compare the reviews on each one. If you have a group or are looking for more of a home atmosphere, head over to VRBO or AirBNB that has houses, apartments and even just a room for rent in every price range.

Book Your Rental Car
If love the freedom to explore like I do, driving from place to place is the best option! I always book with Discover Cars for the best prices and top brand options.

Book Some Fun Tours!
Viator and Get Your Guide are my go-to search engines for cool bucket list experiences! Each one can have different tours, so check both—why limit yourself, right?

Don’t Forget Travel Insurance
Travel can be unpredictable. Whether it’s a last-minute cancellation, an injury, or (ugh) theft, things happen. That’s why I recommend never leaving the country without travel insurance. Here are my faves: Safety Wing and World Nomads.

Get Packing & Travel Essentials Ready
Check out the Bucket List Journey Amazon Store to find all my favorite travel essentials. Everything from Packing cubes, to travel adapters and toiletry containers to walking shoes.

*Lastly, check travel.state.gov for visa requirements and safety information.
