Bucket List of 8 Ways to Give Back

Giving has been proven to increase happiness, teach you about how to be grateful and open up possibilities. So, why aren’t you doing it? Here are 8 Ways to Give back ideas to add to your Bucket List today:

1. Grow Your Locks & Donate Them

Locks of Love will use your hair to create hairpieces for underprivileged children who are suffering from any medical condition. According to their guidelines, hair must be at least 10″ long and cut in a pony tail or braid.

2. Give Blood

Even though donating one pint of blood can save up to three lives, only 3 out of every 100 Americans donate. I know what you are thinking…I hate needles too. But this is one of the ways to give that will be saving lives. If you can fight through the fear, research donation locations at the American Red Cross.

3. Donate Clothes

The rule of thumb is that if you haven’t worn it in a year, give it to someone who will. Yes, that includes your “skinny” jeans that you haven’t fit into since high school!

4. Gift Toys

The holidays are the perfect time to give a less fortunate child a toy. Toys for Tots makes it easy by providing drop off locations around the United States. Last year, with the help of our generous customers, my restaurant collected over 100 toys to donate to Toys for Tots. It was an amazing feeling to know that we were able to help make the holidays for children special.

5. Adopt an Animal

This is one of the ways to give  that will give you unconditional love in return. Petfinder allows you to search through hundreds of adoptable animals so you are able to find the perfect addition to your family.

6. Plant a Tree

Planting a tree is a wonderful way to contribute to the future of the environment. Trees filter pollution, create homes for animals, provide food for humans and so much more.

7. Mentor a Child

Mentoring a child is a chance to make a difference that will last a lifetime. A child can grow when it has a caring adult to discuss all matters of their lives. The Big Brothers Big Sisters is a fantastic organization that helps children realize their potential and build their futures.

8. Be an Organ Donor

Thousands of people in the country are waiting for life-saving organ transplants. You will have a chance to give life to another person by taking the time to sign your donor card.

Which of these Ways to Give Back will you add to your bucket list?

  1. I do a couple of these: mentor, give blood, organ donor and donate clothes.
I just went to locks of love, I remember there was a rumor that dyed hair wasn't acceptable but it doesn't look like this is true anymore. This might be a great thing to try. My hair is curly though so after it gets too long it kind of gets unruly, but I definitely want to try!

  2. I'm an organ donor and I'm donating blood next Monday-that will be 4 pints for the year.  And I regularly go through my closet and take them to Goodwill…although I WILL fit into those Skinny Jeans again!
And I hadn't seen your restaurant website before-yay!

  3. Wow…I'm surprised at how many I have done!  I donate clothes to the Salvation Army several times a year.  I have been a blood donor as well as a bone marrow donor (however I am unable to donate now since I just recently traveled to Africa).  I actually ran my own toy drive one year, and collected truck loads of toys for the cancer kids on my floor.  Perhaps, next year I will do it again, and with free internet shipping everywhere I wanted to get my website readers from around the world involved.  I used to mentor children and ran a support group for children with cancer.  I've got an organ donor sticker on my drivers license.

Now that I have a backyard I am going to plant a tree (coincidentally I was at a nursery looking at trees today), and I am considering growing my hair a few more inches so I can donate to locks of love.  I've got the ten inches however I look TERRIBLE with short hair.  However, I am not ready to adopt an animal quite yet!
