fig cafe interiorThe Fig Cafe in Glen Ellen, California is owned by the same folks who own the renowned Girl & The Fig and Estate in Sonoma, California. I couldn’t believe when I read the website and it said FREE corkage every night. Add that to a memorable cheese platter and it would be heaven. I had to make a phone call to confirm, because I couldn’t (and still can’t) understand how they could afford to do this! Yep! FREE corkage. Sweet! We brought a bottle of Rochioli Pinot Noir that we had been saving for a special occasion.

I made reservations and when we arrived they were full. We had to wait an insignificant amount of time, but were seated about 2 inches from the neighboring table. No problem, in case our conversation got dull we could listen to theirs. They feature a 3 course prix fixe menu every night for $25, another great deal. Tonights was a pomegranate salad, pigs belly with sausage and creme brullee. Though it looked fantastic, we opted for other delectable menu items.

What I ate and how I liked it:

Artisan Cheese Platter $12 A+
We were able to choose three cheeses for this cheese platter and they were all fantastic. It was also served with house-cured salumi. The portion size was fantastic for the price.

Grilled Butcher’s Steak, Blue Cheese Herb Butter, Fries $16 A
This steak was tender and perfectly medium-rare, though a touch uninspired. I can forgive that because it was cooked properly and came with fries!

Wild Mushroom Pappardelle, House-Cured Tesa Pancetta, Grilled Treviso, Walnuts $16 A
The pappardelle was fresh and the pancetta was tasty.

After the meal we decided that not only was the food fantastic, but we would make this a regular dining spot because of the free corkage and memorable cheese platter.
