NEW FOOD #12: Trout
I am definitely not a fish girl, unless it happens to be a delectable almond-crusted Halibut. But, anything that tastes “fishy” or has the head on when it is served is wasted on me. My father-in-law went to the lake and caught several fish including trout. He thought it would be a great idea for my husband to prepare it for dinner for the 5 of us. Not sure why, my husband has never cooked trout before. It was probably an assumption that it would be tasty because we own a restaurant and should have experience preparing every dish ever made before. I was impressed when I arrived to dinner early and the trout had already been cleaned and he decided to cook it with the head off…YEA!! It was grilled and lightly dressed with lemon sauce. Simple. Not bad. I had always thought that trout would be more fishy, but it was similar to a mild Salmon. I don’t think I’d order it at a restaurant, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought.
