Carpe Diem. Seize the day. This is a term that I try to live my life by and is one of the main reasons I was traveling all the way to the Penedes region of Spain to taste many of the 50 Great Cavas ranked by Wine Pleasures. So, it was beyond appropriate that when we arrived at MasTinell we were served their Carpe Diem Cava.
Just a subtle reminder 6,000 miles from home.
We drove up to the road to Mas Tinell and were immediately impressed by the modernistic tasting room, stunning views and the sleek hotel architecture. If they pay this much attention making their floors shiny enough to eat off of, then they must take extra special care when making their award winning bubbly.
Prior to sipping a little Carpe Diem, we were given a brief tour of the hotel portion of MasTinell, which consists of a quaint 12 rooms.
It was then time to drink some cava. Finally.
As we were led into the tasting room there was only one thing on my mind, Carpe Diem Cava. It didn’t help that I saw the lilac labeled bottle out of the corner of my eye. Patience.
We tasted a few others before the star of my show came into play.
They poured the pale, straw yellow liquid into my glass, its fine bubbles gradually releasing to the top of the stemmed glass. And then, before being instructed, I seized the day taking a big gulp of Carpe Diem. It was improper tasting etiquette I am sure, but patience may not be my strong suit.
I am certain it lacked even more tact when I requested a photograph of me with the bottle.
The only thing better would be if there was a bottle of jammy red wine named Carpe Diem too. And if I were double fisting them both while sitting in that bathtub.
