It’s a never ending battle when searching for travel clothing: practicality vs. cuteness. Of course, I want my clothing to be durable and fit the environment, but I also want to look good while wearing it. Luckily, there are brands like Lily Lulu Fashion who make great coats that will last you a long time.
Is it so wrong to want to look good while traveling?
Recently I was on the hunt for cute winter jackets fit for a variety of travel experiences, something that would be warm, practical and versatile. I needed a coat that could be at least dual purposed, take me from exploring an archeological site to hiking a mountain, or from visiting a temple to a night on the town. Because, sometimes you are trekking through the jungle and sometimes your travel is revolved around traipsing through the big city.
It’s a tall order, but here are a few winter coats that fit the bill. And I can honestly say that I would wear every one of them.
1. ColdControl Lite Metallic Ski Puffer Jacket
If you take the classic puffer jacket and modernize it by adding a little metallic sheen, you will get this cute winter jacket that can take you from hiking a volcano in Guatemala to dinner at a restaurant in Tokyo.
Buy at Gap.com $138
2. Longline Faux Fur-Lined Parka
This is the cheapest jacket on this list (thank you Forever 21!) and I am absolutely in love with it. The faux fur lining and accents on the elbow give it a trendy African safari vibe.
Buy at Forever 21 $62.90
3. Olive Puffer Jacket
Here’s a cute winter jacket that is both wind and water resistant. This would have come in real handy while visiting the Kinderdijk Windmills in the Netherlands! I also like that there’s double pockets on the front; one set to warm my hands and the other to hold my cell phone securely.
Buy at Abercrombie.com $180
4. Modern Unlined Herringbone Coat
This super chic herringbone coat is perfect for traipsing around the big cities in Europe or even an afternoon wine tasting in the Napa Valley. The unfinished edges gives it that worn look that is so popular right now!
Buy at FreePeople.com $298
5. Prow Bomber Jacket
Let’s face it, Patagonia knows how to do jackets made for adventure and comfort. This supersoft bomber-style jacket is filled with down, so you will not only be warm but also look super cute. I could see this as my daily go-to jacket, wearing it for everything from off-roading in central Greece to taking a helicopter ride into the Grand Canyon.
Buy at Patagonia.com $199.00
6. ColdControl Max Puffer Jacket
How about a warm puffy jacket with a little bit of style too? You will stay super cozy in this coat, but you could also easily slip a thin sweatshirt underneath for extra warmth.
Buy at Gap.com $128
7. Color Block Puffer Jacker
A cool color blocked jacket that is both wind and water resistant. Use the snap closures to bundle up for a hot air balloon ride or just leave it unbuttoned exposing a cute shirt for a romantic dinner.
Buy at Abercrombie & Fitch $140
8. Silence + Noise Faux Fur Lined Park
This is a 2-in-1 parka that has a water resistant shell and a detachable faux fur lining that makes a trendy hooded vest — get protected from the elements during the day and hit the town in style at night!
Buy at Urban Outfitters $229
9. Contrast Faux Leather Frock Coat
This checked frock coat could be paired with a simple pair of jeans during the day or a cocktail dress for a night at the theater. The metallic detail on the front pockets and the frayed hem give it that extra kick of style.
Buy at Zara.com $129
10. Tallis Oversized Sherpa Parka
This oversized parka will definitely keep you warm with its cozy Sherpa lining. Plus, there are so many zippered pockets that it makes the perfect jacket for a traveler or photographer.
Buy at Free People $298
11. Quilted Nylon Parka
This parka is a classic. It’s the one jacket that should be in every girls closet because it is practical, cute and can take you on an array of adventures around the world. I wore a very similar one on my Christmas market cruise along the Rhine river in Europe.
Buy at Abercrombie.com $200
12. Short Anorak with Fleece Collar
The cozy fleece collar attracted me to this short anorak jacket, though it is detachable for those who don’t love it as much as me. This khaki color is also unique, you won’t find many others on the road wearing the same thing!
Buy at Zara $129
13. Silence + Noise Delta Military Bomber Jacket
Buy at Urban Outfitters $169
14. Chateau Parka in Stadium-Cloth
Made from stadium-cloth wool, this cute jacket will give you warmth without the bulk (isn’t that what all girls want?). The faux fur trim on the hood adds another style element, but it can also be removed for a more sleek look.
Buy at J. Crew $365
15. Shiny Quilted Puffer Jacket
If you only have one jacket for winter travel, a good puffer one should be it. Mine has taken me all over the world: from walking the streets of Zurich to hiking in South of France, and even through the middle eastern country of Jordan. Almost every outdoor brand makes a classic black one, but this iridescent red one will boost your style up a notch.
