I have always wanted to enter one of my food creations into a competition just to see what would happen. You can find an array of recipe contests online, unfortunately, many of the guidelines prohibit restauratuers from participating in recipe-based events. So, I opted to check with the local fairs…no restaurant owner restrictions there! An employee of mine was entering her vegetables at the Harvest Fair in Santa Rosa and encouraged me to enter in some of the food categories. I am technically not a baker (I would much rather cook), but decided to enter the cookie category anyway. I baked Italian Pizzelle and Limoncello Meltaway cookies. The pizzelles placed 2nd and Meltaways a respectable 4th! In total I won a whopping 6 bucks (it cost $3 to enter, not including the cost of ingredients).
